How to clean the waterline? Mafra's Waterline Clean takes care of it, in less than 1 minute
We are back in the company of Carlo Luongo for his fifth video tutorial dedicated to how to take care of your boat. In this case, we discover together how to clean the yellowed waterline.
In a boat, one of the first elements to deteriorate is the waterline. With rolling, in fact, the broadside inevitably tends to get wet, microorganisms and algae are deposited on the paint, and so, also aided by exposure to the sun, the surface tends to yellow. This is certainly an unsightly appearance that also contributes to the boat's loss of value. Have you ever wondered how to clean the yellowed waterline?
That's why Mafra created Waterline Clean, the fully biodegradable cleaner that can restore and whiten waterline yellowing caused by algae and microorganisms.

How to clean the waterline: the solution is Mafra's Waterline Clean

Waterline Clean: at the surface test with Carlo Luongo
Applying Mafra 's Waterline Clean is really very simple, just a few moves and the ingillation from the waterline will be completely removed.
Apply the product
As Carlo Luongo shows in his video tutorial, the first step is to spray the product evenly on the surface to be treated, using the supplied trigger, and wait a few moments. With Waterline Clean, it is not necessary to wet the area to be treated before use. In fact, without water, the product is put in direct contact with the algae, so it leads more quickly to restoration.
Allow the product to act
After applying the product, leave it to work. In no time, you'll see the area brighten and the surface come back clean and shiny, without struggling!
Spread the product
The area where the product was applied returns to white in about 15 to 20 seconds. The advice is to wait up to 30 seconds; after that you can speed up the process by rubbing with an abrasive sponge on the soft side. Just like Carlo does in the video!
Council
As Carlo shows in the video, if you use the sponge, it is important to be careful not to run it over the antifouling line. That way, you will avoid transferring the relevant paint onto the broadside. And, in any case, keep the water hose handy so you can wash everything off the area and the sponge quickly.
Rinse
The only thing to do now is to rinse the treated part with plenty of water to remove all the product from the surface.
Here is the result!
After treating the waterline with Waterline Clean you will notice an unprecedented result! The gelling on the waterline has been removed, now proceed step by step to clean the entire surface.

Carlo Luongo's practical tips for the proper use of Waterline Clean
- The first tip is to always do a preliminary application test, in less visible places (such as under the swim platform), to know the ideal application time for your hull. Do not spray Waterline Clean over the entire length of the hull, but proceed in small areas so you can monitor any side effects.
- The product is acid-based, so be careful with your skin and eyes, especially when vaporizing with the trigger. If you have sensitive skin, use gloves and, instead of steaming the cleanser, proceed by using a sponge and applying the product directly to the area to be treated. Do the same if there are delicate surfaces around you.
- When using the sponge near the waterline, always keep the water hose handy. In fact, if you happen to go over the antifouling, it is a good idea to rinse thoroughly; this is because if the paint dries on the surface it becomes more problematic to remove.
- Beware of painted areas of color other than white. Again, wet the area thoroughly and constantly to prevent any runs from leaving discoloration.
- Waterline Clean is not designed to remove drippings and traces of rust, but to remove the algae responsible for the"wear and tear" effect of fiberglass on the waterline, as indicated by the name of the product.
Detailed directions for use and warning sheets, as well as certification of biodegradability, are provided on the Waterline Clean label.
And, as Carlo Luongo says, wear sunglasses to enjoy the reflection of the totally restored waterline with Mafra's Waterline Clean!
