The incomparable scenery of the Dolomites welcomes participants in the 2023 edition of the Edelweiss, a re-enactment of the historic race, which has now become a tourist-cultural event organized by theAutomotoclub Storico Italiano, with 70 skill tests scattered along a route of more than 460 kilometers.
An event with great tradition-dating back to 1947-the Edelweiss 2023 sees the participation of Mafra alongside all entrants, who receive a special Welcome Kit of products ideal for the care of their precious cars.
A new meeting opportunity, then, between car enthusiasts of all eras and Mafra, which also welcomes them with its Big inflatable arch.

The Edelweiss 2023 program
The 38th edition of the Edelweiss kicks off on Friday, Sept. 8 , from Trento, whose Gianni Caproni Airport hosts the scrutineering, technical and sporting, of the competing crews.
The first car leaves at 3 p.m., heading for Pergine Valsugana. From there, the caravan continues to tackle the Redebus Pass, pass near Fiemme Castle, pass through Ziano di Fiemme and Moena, and finally reach Canazei at 6 p.m., the finish of the first stage.
On Saturday, Sept. 9, starting at 9 a.m., the ascent of the most spectacular Dolomite passes begins, starting with the Sella and continuing with the Valparola and Falzarego passes.
Inevitable passage, late in the morning, from Cortina d'Ampezzo, trespassing in the Veneto province of Belluno, and then back up again, in the incomparable scenery that characterizes the Edelweiss, to tackle the Giau Pass and the Colle di Santa Lucia.
A lunch break is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. in Alleghe. In the afternoon, starting at 2:25 p.m., the cars will tackle Staulanza Pass, followed by Duran and Valles, reached via Agordo.
In Predazzo and Moena the cars can be seen parading, which then reach, starting at 6 p.m., Canazei for a well-deserved rest.
On Sunday, September 10, starting at 9 a.m., the caravan of historic cars will be back on the road to tackle the Costalunga Pass, pay a visit to Nova Levante, Egna, Salorno and Lavis, before reaching Trento and Villa Madruzzo again, where, starting at 1 p.m., the Edelweiss will conclude with lunch and the awards ceremony.
A long tradition
Disputed, yesterday as today, on beautiful mountain roads and against the backdrop of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Edelweiss has a prestigious past.
Organized from 1947 to 1955, it counted among its participants great champions such as Tazio Nuvolari and Piero Taruffi, winner with a Lancia Aprilia in the first edition.
Also among the protagonists of those years was Nuccio Bertone, first place in '48 with a Stanguellini.
What stopped the speed race was, as with many others, the tragedy that claimed the lives of more than eighty people at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in '55.
The last edition of the Dolomite race, held that very year, saw the victory of Olivier Gendebien, winner of four editions of the prestigious French endurance race driving Ferraris, on this occasion at the wheel of a Mercedes 300 SL, the famous "seagull's wings."
It will then be necessary to wait until the 1984 before the event comes back to life, thanks to the efforts of the Scuderia Trentina, in the form of a regularity race for historic cars built up to 1955.
Gorgeous cars
The Edelweiss now returns to the hairpin bends of Trentino with the sponsorships of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the City of Trento and the Trento Paralympic Committee.
Participation is open to historic cars, divided into Legend (built up to 1955) and Celebration (built up to 1973) categories.
In addition to the prizes for the different groupings, the ASI Stella Alpina Trophy is awarded to the most representative car among those that took part in one of the editions of the race held between 1947 and 55.
For enthusiasts, it is an unmissable opportunity to see some 70 fine historic cars in action on the Dolomite passes.
Enrolled in the 2023 edition are such cars as Bugatti 35 A and 37, Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 SS, ASI President Alberto Scuro's rare '57 AC Bristol Roadster , several Porsche 356s and Jaguar XK120s, a Mercedes 300 SL Roadster, and a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet.
