Andrea Pendibene and Giovanna Valsecchi won the Arcipelago 650 regatta, staged in Talamone last weekend and dedicated to the Mini 650 class, leading ITA 520, a boat with the colors of the Italian Navy, to victory.
The 2014 edition, with arrival and return in Talamone (Talamone-Giannutri-Capraia-Talamone), was very close fought: however, the mixed pair formed by Pendibene and Valsecchi was able to impose itself on the fierce Andrea Fornaro and Raffaele Fredella, who held their own and battled to the last with the Mini Marina Militare. ANDREA PENDIBENE - We have done a good job since January, we were not prepared at the top but we knew we were on the right track. We might have settled for a podium, but winning against such fierce opponents, first of all the new and flamboyant series with the 'home crew is a small reward for the sacrifices we make daily and those who work for us from behind the scenes. Beautiful the start with a hard upwind and the passage of the Piombino Channel, the night cold and happy to be in the leading group and be able to play for...a good result! The night between Giglio and L'Argentario was really tough between currents, little wind and in the background the Costa Concordia, a sort of Dantean landscape.
GIOVANNA VALSECCHI - Good but not pulled start, an indecisive upwind between tactics and fleet coverage, the rest between islands, fishing boats made this regatta a mix of colors, sounds, lights and impressive difficulties. Sleeping, eating, resting only when one could between islands and difficult passages.
