Dinghy tubular cleaning: find out how with Carlo Luongo
Shelly is the star of Carlo Luongo's first video tutorial on Mafra products. These are the products used for proper tubular cleaning and protection:
Shelly, in 750ml size is a ready-to-use product designed for complete cleaning of the dinghy and tender. Thanks to its super-concentrated formula with Polarite, a UVA-protecting active ingredient, it helps prevent yellowing due to exposure to sunlight.
Sealy, in 750ml format, is a professional, concentrated product that polishes and protects the inflatable boat in a single operation. But let's see what Carlo Luongo tells us about this product:
To test Shelly, Carlo went to the Nautica Esposito boatyard and put the product to the test on an inflatable boat that had been exposed to the elements during the winter and now required restoration before returning to the water.
To better show how Shelly works, Carlo outlines a part of the tubular on which he will work with the product. As with all cleaning products, it is critical to follow each step-by-step process to work in the best way and avoid unnecessary waste.
Cleaning dinghy tubulars in 4 easy steps:
The main steps for early season maintenance and restoration are 4:
- As the first operation, wet abundantly the surface to be cleaned. In this way, a dual action is achieved:
- dust and debris that have settled on the tubular over the winter and could interfere with cleaning are removed;
- you cool the surface reducing the risk of side effects that could damage the tubular rubber.

- After wetting the surface, spray Shelly evenly and let it work for a few seconds. A word of advice: work on small areas so you can better manage the area and have everything under control. By all means, avoid spraying the cleaner all over the tubular and then going back to scrub: doing so may cause dripping and the result may not be even.

- Rub the surface with a soft sponge. Its special material is composed of a sponge-rubber mixture that effectively penetrates surfaces, precisely removing all kinds of stains and dirt. Use the sponge with rolling motions and without excessive pressure. It is always best to avoid using the abrasive side of ordinary kitchen sponges as there is a risk of leaving scratches on the surface. During this step, do not leave out the areas where soap may drip, otherwise you will notice the color gap between the clean and dirty areas. Thanks to Shelly, the dirt deposited on the surface quickly disappears, restoring the tubular rubber to its original color, with a truly amazing result!

- Rinse the surface thoroughly with water without excessive pressure and, helping with a sponge. Get rid of the foam and make sure that the cleaner is completely removed, otherwise there is a risk that it will continue to act on the surface. Finally, dry the tubular with a microfiber cloth such as Heavy-Work and move on to the next area. Always check that in the treated area all dirt has been completely removed. If there is still residue, repeat the cycle by running Shelly for a few more moments. After thoroughly cleaning the tubular we recommend protecting the surface with Sealy.

An important note: Remember that it is always best to avoid working during the hottest hours of the day and in direct sunlight as UV rays increase the risk of corrosion of products and the occurrence of side effects!
Thanks to Shelly and following Carlo Luongo's valuable advice, it is easy to remove all traces of smog, weathering, soil and residual waxes from the tubular, preparing the surface for subsequent waxing and reviving it without the risk of corroding the rubber with unsuitable detergents.
