MAFRA AT 1000 MILES 2022
Once again this year Marco Mattioli is participating in the 1000 Miglia 2022 together with Corrado Lopresto. At the start with a very special car, a 1934 Lancia Astura Cabriolet. Already the winner of several concours d'elegance, it is a true jewel of the stable of the well-known Italian collector.
Everything is ready for edition number 40 of the reenactment of the world's most famous Italian Historical Race: the 1000 Miglia 2022 kicks off on Wednesday, June 15. Departure from Brescia with an anti-clockwise route, inspired by the pre-war 1000 Miglia. In fact, it returns to the route that characterized the 1947 and 1948 editions, the following ones from 1950 to 1957 as well as thirty-eight historical re-enactments out of thirty-nine. An edition that also sees a Mafra-sponsored crew at the start, composed of Corrado Lopresto, Italy's most important collector of classic cars, and Marco Mattioli, Mafra's general manager. The two are competing in a truly exceptional car: the 1934 Lancia Astura Cabriolet whose first owner was the legendary Count Giovanni Lurani Cernuschi. A journalist and driver, Count Lurani was considered one of the most prominent personalities in the car industry in the 1930s.
A car of great prestige
The 1934 Lancia Astura Cabriolet, with which Corrado Lopresto and Marco Mattioli are competing in the 2022 1000 Miglia, has a distinguished history. Purchased in 1934 by Count Lurani, the car is the third series with a short chassis and is delivered without bodywork, equipped only with the four baquet seats. The Count raced it in this configuration participating in the 1934 Lecco-Maggio race and won the victory in the tourism class over 1500cc.
In 1935 the chassis was bodied by Stabilimenti Farina and once completed, it participated in a series of concours d'elegance: Viareggio, March 4 (first prize and special prize); Monte Carlo, March 30 (first prize), Cannes on April 2 (grand prix and Lalique cup), Villa d'Este (first prize).
Now the car is part of the exclusive collection of Corrado Lopresto and continues to make a good impression at the most prestigious concours d'elegance around the world. The stunning jewel is also starring at the 2022 1000 Miglia.
