ASI Tricolor Circuit, new stop in Piacenza for Vernasca Silver Flag 2023

Taking place on the roads of the Piacenza hills is the Vernasca Silver Flag 2023, the seventh stage of the ASI Circuito Tricolore. Appointment June 9-11 for a route that evokes the Castell'Arquato-Lugagnano-Vernasca hill climb race. L'ASI Circuito Tricolore moves to the roads of the Piacenza hills for its seventh event: the Vernasca Silver Flag 2023. From June 9 to 11, classic car enthusiasts will gather in the province of Piacenza for the re-enactment of the Castell'Arquato-Lugagnano-Vernasca hill climb race that was run until 1972.

A showcase for historic racing cars

Once again this year, the Vernasca Silver Flag showcases a fascinating collection of historic racing cars built up to 1972. True works of art on wheels, representing the elegance, power and engineering mastery of past eras. Organized by the C.P.A.E. (Club Piacentino Automotoveicoli d'Epoca), the2023 edition of the Vernasca Silver Flag has as its main theme a tribute to one of the most iconic brands of Italian motoring: the Maserati.

Born out of the commitment and passion of Alfieri Maserati, with the collaboration of his brothers Ernesto and Ettore, the House of the Trident won a prominent role in international motoring in the 1920s and 1930s, managing to reconfirm itself in the postwar period in terms of glamour and performance. Maserati also boasts three successes at Castell'Arquato-Vernasca: in 1956 and 1959 with Fernando Pagliarini, in 1961 with Odoardo Govoni.

Thanks to the collaboration of Maserati Classiche, there are numerous models featured at the 2023 Silver Flag Vernasca. Don't miss the opportunity to admire these history-making cars up close.

The historical path

The route chosen for the Vernasca Silver Flag is loaded with history and challenge. The Castell'Arquato-Lugagnano-Vernasca uphill race saw its first edition in 1953 and was run for 17 years until 1972. The Vernasca Silver Flag retraces these roads with a scenic route. Through winding hairpin bends and picturesque roads, vintage cars speed along this historic route, reawakening the atmosphere of a golden age of motor racing.

On Friday, June 9, entrants for the 2023 Vernasca Silver Flag meet in Castell'Arquato for scrutineering and assignment of starting numbers. The cars are on display in the 2 paddocks set up in Castell'Arquato (Lungo Arda and Piazza Europa), where fans can admire them up close. It is a unique opportunity for vintage car enthusiasts to get close to these mechanical masterpieces and interact with the experts who have preserved them over time.
On Saturday, June 10, after the race director's briefing, the first uphill trial starts at 11 a .m. while the second trial is scheduled at 3:30 p.m., after lunch. The day ends with refreshments and a gala dinner in the medieval square of Castell'Arquato.
On Sunday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m., the third and final climb on the Castell'Arquato-Lugagnano-Vernasca route starts. After lunch, the meeting is in Vernasca for the closing of the event and the awards ceremony for the winners.

Where to follow the Vernasca Silver Flag 2023

Attending the Silver Flag Vernasca is an exciting experience for all classic car lovers. In addition to the two paddocks set up in Castell'Arquato, one of the most spectacular spots to watch the race is the start, bordered by theMafra inflatable arch. Here the cars proceed slowly to the starting line and are introduced by the event's official speaker, then launch themselves down the climbs leading to Vernasca via Lugagnano. Right in Lugagnano, on the curve in the center of town, there is another point where the competing cars can be admired. Other very spectacular and scenic points are the numerous hairpin bends found on the uphill stretches.
