THE Liri Valley Tour, a successful event
The idea of organizing an event that would enhance the beauty of this area came in 2002 to the CAMEF, the Circolo auto moto d'epoca del Frusinate (Vintage Car and Motorcycle Club of Frusinate) formed by a group of enthusiasts in 1987.
Since its first edition, the event, which combines skill tests and visits to tourist attractions, has seen its importance and the number of participants grow. A success enshrined with seven Golden Crank awards given to it between 2007 and 2022.
Since 2016, the program of the Liri Valley Tour has been enriched with the re-enactment of the Frosinone Circuit, a race from the 1950s that ran through the entire city center.
Participants again today traveled through a city ring closed to traffic, competing in skill tests amid wings of passionate spectators.
A territory to be discovered
La Liri Valley lies between Rome and Naples and hides treasures such as nineteen villages, rich in historical and cultural heritage. This, after all, was the homeland of St. Thomas Aquinas, but also of Cicero, Juvenal, and great film figures such as Marcello Mastroianni and Vittorio De Sica.
The Liri Valley Tour allows you to discover the architectural beauty of the Benedictine and Cistercian abbeys of Ciociaria and the natural beauty, starting with the waterfall of Isola del Liri.
The Giro Valle del Liri, from Frosinone to Fiuggi. The route of the Giro Valle del Liri 2024, 270 kilometers long in all, includes 50 skill tests and five stamp-passing controls. Cars built before 1993 are allowed to participate in the event.
On Friday, September 27, from 12 noon to 2 p.m., the program includes scrutineering and punching of the cars at the Villa Comunale in Frosinone. This villa is also the place for the competitors' departure, scheduled at 3 p.m.
The route then winds along the Monti Lepini fo othills road, passing through Sgurgola and Anagni, where a visit to the Crypt is planned. This is also home to the Hall of the famous "Slap of Anagni," the humiliation inflicted on Pope Boniface VIII by the French king's troops in 1303.
Crews are scheduled to arrive at 6 p.m. in Fiuggi, ahead of a welcome drink at the 1928 Golf Club and dinner at the Hotel San Giorgio.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, the caravan of classic cars gets underway again at 9 a.m. from the Thermal City of Fiuggi to head for the most evocative historic centers of Ciociaria, reaching first the Certosa di Trisulti, dating back to the early 1200s, then the village of Arpino, in whose territory Marcus Tullius Cicero was born in 106 BC.
After lunch, scheduled at 1 p.m. in the old Lefebvre paper mill, the route continues in the direction of the Isola del Liri Waterfall, the only natural-type waterfall in all of Italy to be located within a historic center.
Then it is the turn of Veroli and Alatri, before the classic cars return to Fiuggi, for dinner and overnight stay for the crews.
Sunday, Sept. 29, at 8:30 a.m. is scheduled to depart Fiuggi in the direction of Subiaco, where the historic cars will parade in front of the Sacro Speco di San Benedetto, a cave in which the saint lived in the 6th century, now part of a monastery.
The route then continues to Jenne, a small town in the Valle dell'Aniene Mountain Community, and finally ends in Fiuggi.
In the Grand Theater of this spa resort, starting at 12 p.m., the awards ceremony for competitors will be held, along withASI 's celebration of the National Classic Vehicle Day.
Mafra is close to the participants in the Giro Valle del Liri, which it welcomes with its Welcome Kit and supports as in all events that are part of theASI Circuito Tricolore calendar.
