Andrea Pendibene and Giovanna Valsecchi, the Navy athletes supported by MA-FRA, are back at sea with ITA520. Pendibene and Valsecchi are off to Rome to face a new challenge: Transtyrrhenum 650, the third regatta valid for the Italian Championship.
The start of Transtyrrhenum 650 is scheduled for Sunday, May 11: the course, between the island of Capri, the Aeolian Islands and the Sicilian coast, will not be able to leave even the competitors indifferent. The ITA520 team was able to hit the top step of the podium in the first two regattas of the Italian 650 Series Championship, and now, after an intense training period ashore, it's time to return to the sea.
"Going back to sea is never easy," they say. It's certainly going to be challenging: five days of sailing, with weather promising a stiff wind that will force them to keep their attention high. Once they arrive, three days of equipment checks await them, then the race.
The first leg starts from Achab Yacht Club in Rome-Ostia Lido and lands in Termini Imerese after about 330 miles of coastal sailing, great Altura and technical passages between the islands. Three days of rest and Sunday, May 18, we set off again for the second leg: direct route to Rome, skimming past Ustica, 220 miles to run at breakneck speed.
For Andrea Pendibene , "in Italy we are far from oceanic winds and seas, but this Transtyrrhenum has nothing to envy: it will be a very hard race and a taste for those who dream with conviction of the Transat 650 2015."
