ASI Tricolor Circuit lands on Elba Island

The ASI Tricolor Circuit starts again on the roads of Elba. From Friday, September 29 until Sunday, October 1, the Grand Tour of Elba 2023 takes place. We at Mafra are present as a sponsor of the event and with our special Welcome Kits with useful products for car care.

From Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, the Island of Elba will see the cars participating in the Grand Tour of Elba, a tourist event with skill tests reserved for historic vehicles, part of the Tricolor Circuit Asi.

Admitted to the event are 70 vintage cars, all of which have been awarded the Asi Certificate of Identity, the so-called Targa Oro, attesting to their highest degree of authenticity.

In the footsteps of champions

Organized by the Balestrero Club of Lucca, the event's route traces the most challenging special stages of the Rally dell'Elba, a prestigious race that has counted among its winners such specialty legends as Marku Alen (in a Fiat 131 Abarth) and Bernard Darniche (in a Lancia Stratos).

A sequence of roads alternating between the tortured coastal profile and the island's partly still wild interior, with famous stretches such as the narrow and feared Volterraio.

Here is the schedule for the Grand Tour of Elba.

Friday, Sept. 29, with competitors arriving in Piombino.

Here the cars board Blu Navy ferries to reach Portoferraio and the hotel in Procchio, where race documentation checks are held.

On Saturday, Sept. 30, the cars set off for Marciana, performing skill tests on the Strade della Civillina.

Participants, then, can take the cable car to the summit of Mount Capanne, at an altitude of 1,019 meters. From this peak, which is the highest on the island, a splendid panorama can be admired: from the islands of theTuscan Archipelago to Corsica. A stop for lunch is then planned at the restaurant "The Lone Pine" in Fetovaia, to be reached by other skill tests, also organized along the return route to Marina di Campo.

On Sunday, Oct. 3, crews leave in the morning for Portoferraio to visit the Medici Fortress and Napoleon's Villa.

In fact, the emperor stayed on the Tuscan island between May 1814 and February the following year, when he managed to escape to repair back to France. Immediately afterwards, the cars are displayed on the Lungomare Le Ghiaie in Portoferraio, to be admired by the public of enthusiasts. The day ends with the awards ceremony held at the restaurant "The Compass".
