If you are wondering whether or not this is a "real obligation," the answer is yes! Failure to change your tires could result in administrative penalties ranging, in built-up areas, from a minimum of 41 euros to as much as 168 euros - as stipulated in Article 7 paragraphs 1(a) and 14 of the Highway Code. Outside built-up areas, on the other hand, on highways or main suburban roads, the minimum fine is 84 euros to go up to 335 euros (Art. 6 paragraphs 4 (e) and 14). Having said that, in this article we will provide you with some useful infomations regarding the mandatory tire change. But most importantly, we will talk about the need to take care of summer tires during this break.
What the law says: dates and other info
Anyone who, as of November 15, 2018, drives without thermal tires (or chains on board) on roads where it is mandatory, could face an administrative penalty... and a hefty one at that! But the use of a system appropriate to the weather conditions is not only necessary to avoid penalties: it is essential to circulate safely. In general, from November 15 , 2018 until April 15, 2019, there is an obligation to be equipped, that is, to have on board "anti-slippery means or winter tires suitable for driving on snow or ice." According to the directive of the Ministry of Transport, there is an exemption that allows installation from one month before the obligation comes into force (thus from October 15). De-installation, on the other hand, within one month after the conclusion (so May 15). In short, there is still time to provide for the mandatory tire change, but let's not lull ourselves too much.
What happens to summer tires?
Cleaning your tires should be a (good) periodic practice. This is the only way to keep them in excellent condition. To perfectly clean your auto tires, kept in the garage given the mandatory tire change, it is definitely best to use a pressure washer with an adjustable lance. Of course, you'll also need some specific products to achieve your maturing goals. We at MAFRA advise you, first of all, to get a Rim and Tire cleaner.
