2022: we start with the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique
Mafra's 2022 racing season kicks off on the historic roads of the Principality of Monaco for the 2022 edition of the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique. We are sponsoring the start in Milan and running with a crew consisting of Marco Mattioli and Mario Pensotti, driving a 1974 Alfa Romeo 1750 GT. But the news doesn't end there: we are providing all Italian teams with a scouting crew.
On Thursday, January 27, in front of the building of theAutomobile Club Milano in Corso Venezia 43, the 2022 edition of the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique kicks off . And it is precisely with this unmissable event that the 2022 regularity race season dedicated to classic cars also opens. As per tradition, our Mafra brand is Official Sponsor of the event.
Once again this year Milan, along with Bad Homburg and Reims, is one of the cities from which the 24th edition of the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique, an absolutely iconic race, kicks off. Enthusiasts on Wednesday, Jan. 26, can admire the cars on display inside the Cloisters of the Senate Palace. It is the detailers from the #Labocosmetica team who take care of these beautiful jewels with a soft detailing treatment. The next day, all the cars parade through the city center and then are presented on the stage set up in Piazza Duomo, the real starting point on their way to Monte-Carlo.

Always a challenging race
Monte-Carlo is never a race like any other. It may be because it is run on the roads leading to the Principality of Monaco, which has always been an icon of world glamour; it may be because in the 1970s and 1980s it was the scene of legendary challenges between the greatest rally drivers, driving cars that made motor racing history. This regularity race requires a lot of attention: many of the special stages take place on snowy roads and it is often run at night. You have to be very prepared and focused; one small mistake is enough to incur heavy penalties.
The first time trials of the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique 2022 are set for Saturday, January 29, and the finish is scheduled, as per tradition, on the night of Tuesday, February 1 to Wednesday, February 2. Finally, on the evening of Thursday, February 3, at the Salle des Etoiles of the Monte-Carlo Sporting Club, the Gala and Awards Evening takes place.
A Mafra crew at the service of competitors
Marco Mattioli and his trusty navigator Mario Pensotti are participating in the race among the ranks of the Scuderia Milano Autostoriche, with the 1974 Alfa Romeo 1750 GT. But this year there is also another important novelty. For all Italian crews, we have provided a scouting crew, with the task of surveying road conditions after the first competitors have started. This is an important help especially for those cars that start many hours later than the first ones.
The roads on which the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique is run are very challenging and, as the hours and the competitors pass, they tend to deteriorate and the surface may change characteristics, thus being more dirt and more or less icy or snowy.
